’inside the italian Pavilion “INNESTI/GRAFTING” directed by Cino Zucchi, section “Innesti. A contemporary landscape”, exhibited the project of the walkway in the Valley of the Temples in Agrigento, in perfect accordance with the interpretation that the director of the Italian Pavilion had chosen to develop the suggestions given by Rem Koolhaas “Absorbing Modernity 1914/2014”.
“… the original contribution of planning in our country in the’last century: a ‘anomalous modernity’stressed by the capability to renovate and at the same time to interpret the past states. Any formal adaptation a posteriori of the new with respect to’the existent, but rather‘grafts’ able to act with efficacy and awareness within the stratified urban fabric” (Cino Zucchi)
As a matter of fact, the project of the walkway, interprets the architectural and natural formal elements, which are present into the archaeological park of Agrigento, which are transfigured and reread through a contemporary language. Materials, lights and shadows evoque the archaeological rests grafting the surrounding landscape
